And then I had this
phone conversation with
Claude other day that
really warmed my heart and
encouraged me to keep going
with getting this
information together in
accessible video
format.
Claude ordered the Bladder

ebook a couple of weeks

email because he kept
looking in his mail
box for the "book" version
he thought he would also
receive.
He wondered where the
book was because he wanted

I emailed Claude right away

also called him, to get it

conversation and we got

Claude
had been put on several

end of 2009. He said it
just came out of the blue
and neither he nor his

rest of his life and his
mood was getting rather
depressed.
He just didn't know what to
do. Medications weren't
working, no surgery was
available and it seemed
like he was going to be
resigned to using pads and
staying
home.
Medical bladder treatment
just didn't work for
Claude.

I began working with

problems. I
decided to do this
because I had been
reading so many
articles about how
effective biofeedback
is with bladder and
bowel
problems.
It turns out that this
has been the most
rewarding period of my
career because the
techniques are so
successful and I get
lots of warm thanks and
hugs for the help
people receive. It
really makes
me want to share
the information with
everyone who can use
it.
You see, your doctor
just really doesn't
have time to sit down
with every bladder
patient and discuss all
this information. A lot
of people really need
some coaching to put
new bladder habits into
place and it just takes
far too much time for
the doctor to
do.
Even hiring a staff
person to do this has
quite a bit of expense
for your doctor and
it's not cost
effective. So the
quicker, easier,
medical approach is to
prescribe a medication
that will calm down a
lot of over active
bladders.
But bladder medications
don't cure the
problem. They just
manages the symptoms.
Stop taking the
medication and your
symptoms are right
there again...maybe
worse than
before.
However, many people,
given the information,
can manage overactive
bladders without
medications.
That's where I came in
as a biofeedback
therapist. Physicians
in northwest California
would diagnose people
with over active
bladder or stress
incontinence and send
them to me
for bladder
coaching through a
bladder retraining
program.
So far I
have worked
with several
hundred people referred
by their doctors with
diagnoses of over
active bladder, stress
incontinence, urge
incontinence,
frequency,
prolapse and
nocturia.
A high percentage of
these people have
been able to reclaim
natural bladder
control and give up
pads and over active
bladder medications
within just a few
days.
Let's
talk about Joyce
who had a problem as
soon as she put the key in
her front door.
Maybe you can recognize
yourself in Joyce, a
client of mine, who
would plan her shopping
trips based on which
stores had decent
bathrooms. And
even though she tried
to keep her bladder
empty, as soon as she
arrived home and
started to put her key
in the front door her
bladder would start to
empty on the front
porch.
And then she would do
the "
Pee Pee Dance"
as she called it and
run for a
tree.
This didn't seem like a
terrible problem to
Joyce in the beginning
but it kept happening
again and again. After
several months, it was
clear that this was
getting
worse.
At first her bladder
waited until she was
getting the key in the
front door,
but:
then it started
letting go at
earlier and
earlier stages,
emptying as she
got to the
front
porch.
Then it started
letting go just
as she was
getting out of
the
car.
Then, as soon
as she pulled
into the
driveway her
bladder was
letting go
while she was
still sitting
behind the
steering
wheel.
As more time went on
and she was more and
more out of control,
she started to feel
really worried every
time she left the
house.
She was embarrasesed
and didn't talk with
her doctor about
it, and just tried
to ignore the problem,
hoping it would go away
- but it didn't. She
also started noticing
that she was going to
the bathroom a lot more
often that what she
used
to.
Joyce thought that
emptying her bladder
often would prevent an
accident, but instead,
it seemed like the
opposite was
happpening. The more
often she emptied her
bladder, the more often
it seemed to get the
Urge to
empty.
She was really out of
control, frustrated
and upset. But,
Joyce shared with me,
that what really
put her over the edge
was seeing what was
happening to her young
daughters.
One
thing she was really
concerned about was when
she noticed that her young
daughters were imitating
her behavior.
Joyce told me
during one of her
sessions
that they, too,
were starting to do the
" Pee Pee
Dance" at the
front door and run for
the
trees.
Her
girls hadn't been
like this before and
had been well past
potty training days.
Joyce knew without a
doubt that it was just
because they were
watching and doing what
Mommy
does.
She was
concerned that her
girls were going
to live with life
long bladder
problems just
because they
were watching her
and
imitating.
Not wanting her
daughters to suffer
with bladder problems
is what finally
convinced Joyce to do
something about it.
Joyce worked with me
for a few weeks and
reclaimed bladder
control quickly once
she understood the

When You
"Have To Go", Do You Feel

would be just fine,
until she walked
past a bathroom
door and then all of a
sudden she'd get hit

that seem like common
sense such as emptying
your bladder frequently
to prevent accidents,
actually train the
bladder problem to get
worse.
Whatever
your symptoms
are, don't ignore
them. Retrain
them
instead.
Over Active Bladder
effects people of all
ages. There is Alex, a
42 year old helicopter
pilot with the Coast
Guard. He had to have a
prostate cancer surgery
at that young age. The
surgery got rid of
the cancer but left him
incontinent.
He couldn't return to
work until he had full
bladder
control. M
any of us have
demanding jobs, and
there's never a good
time for a bladder
problem. But can you
imagine being in
ahelicopter
pilot'sposition?
This could be a real
problem
That's definitely not a
good place to be when
you
r bladder suddenly
wants to empty. This
was a guy that really
need
ed to find a
solution.
Alex thought he was
following the surgeon's
recommendation exactly
and he tried SO HARD to
do those kegel
exercises and regain
strength in his pelvic
floor muscles.
But his

working at all. He was
just beside himself
with distress by the
time his doctor sent
him to see
